Notebook Sketch, Print and Excuses

Sorry I've been such a late poster lately. I've had a fever for the past few days and the only thing I could really do was watch Farscape episodes and alternately shiver and sweat. I am starting to feel better now though, thanks to D'Argo, Zaahn, and all the other space-skipping little lovelies.

The new stuff that I'm currently working on has been contracted by the Hudson Valley Seed Library and they requested that it be kept secret until the official unveiling. I'm doing an illustration for one of their reputable seed packets and I have to say the process has been pretty fun! Can't wait for you to see it.

In the meantime. . .

This is a sketchbook drawing I did last fall entitled "Float." It was inspired by a feeling that despite all my best efforts there was some part of me that was detaching, which left me faced with the questions; when is it good to let go, and when is it good to hold on?

I ended up reusing this sketch later for an etching.

This etching was done as a final print in the research I did at Zea Mays. The plate was zinc and the mordant used was Saline Copper Sulfate, a powerful salt solution that is a less toxic version of acid, which is more commonly used. I was able to get tone and line in this print using this process, and though it still has a long way to go before all the kinks are worked out, I was very pleased with the results.

Lets see what happens next week, maybe I'll grow horns on my face or my hands will fall off. Either way I'll still at least keep trying to make regular posts. Even if I have to do so with my elbows and face horns.
