Hudson Valley Seed Library

Thank you everyone who came out to the Seed Library show! There was some truly inspirational work there that made my toes curl! And I have to say that I was very flattered when Natalie Merchant showed up at the opening to see my work. I know she's a big fan of mine, so it was really sweet of her to finally get the nerve up and come to a show.

So this shout-out goes to Natalie. Hey gurl, I know we grew up in the same town, went to the same community college, then we both went to the SUNY New Paltz and are currently living in the Hudson Valley, but that is no reason for you to feel intimidated by me. Just because I was part of an afterschool music program that recorded a tribute cd of the 10,000 Manicas greatest hits and I sang all your parts, doesn't mean you need to feel all weird about it. Denise Drew and I are buddies, we can be buddies too. Come on Natalie, trouble me, with all your cares, and your worries! Speak to me!

Sorry. I kind of had to do that. Also, on a side note Lucile Ball also grew up in my home town. If she ever showed up to a show of mine I might flip out too. But even more so, because she's dead.

But anyway, if you didn't get a chance to go to the Hudson Valley Seed Library opening, here are some photos of my submission. I did Sparkler Radish.

Here's my initial sketchbook submission complete with notes.

And the actual pimpin', blinged out little veggy itself.

In a classic home setting

And here is the sketchbook for my initial submission. I was supposed to do the Jenny Lind Mellon, and I thought it would be pretty funny to make soft sewn sculptures of a melon slice along with other breakfast foods, then arrange them into a face. You know, a breakfast face that Mom would make for you if it was your birthday, or the way that Pee Wee Herman always ate his breakfast. Oh well. I may still do a breakfast face in the future.
