Wild Leeks

This is another piece I've been working on that is part of the "Layers" series. If you want to see it in person, which I highly recommend because this picture doesn't really show the three dimensionality of it as well as it could, then please stop on by Waterstreet Market to see it in person.

Coincidentally I'm going out this weekend to see if I can harvest some wild leeks, also known as ramps. Have you ever eaten them? These little beauties are so dear to my heart. Every spring my family would go back in our woods to dig them up and make leek soup out of them. I grew up just outside of Buffalo, so when spring came it was more than enough reason to celebrate! And yes, they are that red color, and so delicious too!

So if you go foraging, keep an eye out for leeks, mayapple, toothswort, trillium, and bloodroot and send them my love! Those little harbingers of spring have been the joy to my heart since I was a child and after each winter I greet them with open arms.

I will keep my eyes open for tasty leeks. And I am excited to see the continuation of your Layers series.
